Last year at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 4.82 percent. “After rising for four consecutive weeks, mortgage rates eased back to where they were two weeks ago and still remain historically low…Low mortgage rates continue to help stabilize the housing market.” said Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac vice president and chief economist.

Clearwater FL – Everyone’s been wondering when the Recession would be over. We’ve been waiting for good news in the Job Market and recent trends indicate positive changes, while real income continues to exceed GDP, and it arrived this month.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports on April 2, 2010:

“Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 162,000 in March, and the unemployment rate held at 9.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.”

Also, on April 9, 2010, Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac vice president and chief economist said:

“Once again, mortgage rates followed bond yields higher amid a positive March employment report. The economy added 162,000 jobs, which was the largest monthly gain over the past three years. In addition, revisions raised the January and February figures by a combined 61,000 workers. Excluding government employees, private payrolls rose for the third consecutive month and were the strongest increase since May 2007.”

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 4.99 percent with an average 0.6 point for the week, up slightly from last week when it averaged 4.96 percent. Last year at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 4.85 percent.
    Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac vice president and chief economist says: “Mortgage rates inched up slightly this week as bond yields rose even further. Interest rates on 30-year fixed mortgages, however, were still below 5 percent for the fourth consecutive week.”
