Dunedin Florida – A friend of mine created a Wedding Planning Tips site and we were discussing how great wedding locations really set the mood and go a long way towards making weddings create memories of a lifetime.   Of course I had to tell her that we have one of the best places to have a beach wedding in the United States - Honeymoon Island Dunedin, one of Florida’s best state Parks .  I have to admit that I am a little biased but I’m going to share some of my pictures and videos of Honeymoon Island and then you tell me.

Honeymoon Island Dunedin Florida

Honeymoon Island starts with a great name for a wedding location as well as being located near lots of great hotels for all your friends and family and definitely caters to personalized special weddings.  Honeymoon Island State Park is actually a barrier island located just outside of Dunedin, Florida, and while it’s popular with locals as well as tourists – it’s created quite a repuation for itself for beach weddings.

Many times I’ve taken the kids their to enjoy our amazing sunsets and it never fails that on weekends (especially in the summer months) we’ve seen a wide variety of beach weddings – from bohemian casual to the ultimate in luxury wedding with full blown tents and lights on the beach after the park has closed for the day.

Palm Harbor Florida – Recently my family along with some friends took our kids to Wall Springs Park for the day. It’s a great place to hike, bike, fish, bird watch, relax and just have a great time. This is one of Pinellas County’s best kept secrets just of Alt 19 before you get to Tarpon Springs. It extends out to the coast through the thick mangroves that offer a real look at Natural Florida.

The Park is also located along the Pinellas Trail. I took quite a few pictures to give you a sneek peak at this special place – however there’s nothing like seeing it in person. Pinellas County acquired Wall Springs in 1988 with the initial purchase of 63 acres which included the Spring and surrounding area – Here’s an up-close look at Wall Springs Park.

Wall Springs Park – Quite a Local History

In 1927 the Wall family sold it to the Davis family that changed the name from Wall Springs to Health Springs – where they marketed and extolled the health benefits of these waters. Mr. Harry Davis also spread the myth that Spanish explorer Ponce De Leon discovered this spring.

Mr. Davis eventually sold the property to the Cullen family of Palm Harbor in 1949. The Cullen family changed the name back to Wall Springs and operated it as a commercial recreational facility. They added many amenities like horseshoes, volleyball, hiking paths, picnic shelters and more.

Back in the 1950’s this Spring was the site of a freshwater beach where tourists enjoyed lounging and bathing in these pristine waters.

Eventually in 1966 the Cullen family closed the facility due to high insurance premiums and liabilities. which left the door open for Pinellas County to acquire Wall Springs in 1988.

August 20, 2005 the park was officially opened to the public through the use of Penny for Pinellas taxes – after developing fishing piers, observation decks, playground and restrooms for visitors to enjoy this piece of Pinellas Paradise.

Pinellas County Florida has invested in protecting our environment and one such example is their work to create Brooker Creek Preserve, 8500 acres in Tarpon Springs Florida.

The Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve help raise funds to be able to provide more local green education and eco-friendly work especially as it pertains to our local watershed. They also support the Brooker Creek Environmental Education Center. The Brooker Creek Environmental Education Center is open 9:00am – 4:00pm Wednesday – Sundays (Note: it is Closed Mondays and Tuesdays)

Pinellas County Living Green | Learn how to make your Holidays Green

The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center Staff will be offering a free program, Make your Holiday’s Green, this Wednesday November 14, 2007 from 7–8pm.

“Did you know the holidays add 25 million tons of garbage to our landfills each year? Most wrapping papers, greeting cards and decorations cannot be recycled” – Brooker Creek Educational Center website 

The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center Staff will be offering a free program to teach you how to Make your Holiday’s Green, this Wednesday November 14, 2007 from 7–8pm at The Cypress Swamp Cafe.   

You may even get started on your holiday gift wrapping – you will be learning eco-friendly ways to wrap presents, make environmentally friendly holiday cards and even how to make “green” decorations from nature.

Clearwater Florida Family shares Favorite Eco Friendly Wrapping Project

Green Gift Wrapping: One of our families favorite eco-friendly gift wrapping ideas is to purchase the brown lunch bags and use our rubber stamps to decorate them.

Even my youngest son can do a great job making one-of-a-kind eco-friendly gift wrapping.   

A few years ago we found rubber stamps on a roller – these are great for decorating larger items like butcher block paper and holiday cards on recycled paper.

Eco-Friendly Decorations: For years we have combed the beaches and picked shells with a natural hole in them. We can then string them to make a one-of-a kind ornament and my youngest has even made special “shell jewelry” – it’s something everyone treasures.
