Clearwater FL – Everyone’s been wondering when the Recession would be over. We’ve been waiting for good news in the Job Market and recent trends indicate positive changes, while real income continues to exceed GDP, and it arrived this month.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports on April 2, 2010:

“Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 162,000 in March, and the unemployment rate held at 9.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.”

Also, on April 9, 2010, Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac vice president and chief economist said:

“Once again, mortgage rates followed bond yields higher amid a positive March employment report. The economy added 162,000 jobs, which was the largest monthly gain over the past three years. In addition, revisions raised the January and February figures by a combined 61,000 workers. Excluding government employees, private payrolls rose for the third consecutive month and were the strongest increase since May 2007.”

Clearwater Florida – I recently found this interesting video on home tips for your Clearwater home. Watch this 2-minute video for a hands-on demonstration of changing the direction of your ceiling fans, plus a clever test using ordinary tissue to see if you’ve done it properly.

In the cooler months of the year, the blades of a ceiling fan should be set to rotate clockwise. Why? Beacause it forces warm air at the top of a the room which causes the air to recirculate downward into the “living space”. Proper ceiling fan blade rotation can change a room’s “feel” by 8 degrees or more (it’s a huge help in our summer months here in our Clearwater Florida home), allowing for more modest settings on a home thermostat. Clearwater Florida – We are all looking for ways to be more “green” and “eco friendly” however, if you haven’t changed your Clearwater home’s air filters lately, this 1-minute video will demonstrate just how much energy your HVAC unit is wasting at your house today. A clogged air filter operates with a lot less efficiency.

Air filters in your Clearwater home should be changed at least once per quarter. In certain circumstances, however, more frequent replacements are warranted.

Clearwater experienced Tornado Warnings Today – Were you Prepared?

Clearwater Florida - Wow we had a crazy rainy tornado day in the Tampa Bay area today. Jack and the boys were in Tarpon Springs just outside Pasco County today at our Homeschool Co-op and we heard from families and friends about people whose homes were effected. If you’re like me you propably spent at least part of today worried about someone you knew in the hardest hit areas in Tampa Bay.

We are used to preparing for hurricanes regularly here, however, tornadoes give little to no warning so it’s a great reminder to be prepared for Natural disasters that may hit Clearwater families when we least expect it.

In 2003, the Department of Homeland Security launched Ready.gov, a government website aimed at family, business and community disaster readiness.

When You’re at Home in Clearwater Florida are you Disaster Ready?

Now, when the Ready.gov website talks about disaster readiness, it’s referring to more than just physical attacks on the county — it’s talking about natural disasters, too. This includes hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes and floods and these weather-related events impact the different parts of country each year like we experienced here in Clearwater today.

The Ready.gov website is loaded with tips, notes and checklists, including the 3-minute “It Takes Just Three Steps To Get Ready For An Emergency” video featured above.

If you’ve never watched it, take the time to watch it today. Then, test your home’s disaster readiness, take this 10-question quiz. There’s no “passing grade”, per se, but with your own answers, you’ll see where there’s room for improvement.

Tampa Bay Florida – Today I was reading one of my favorite Tampa Bay blogs and was reminded that this year’s Super Bowl is only 149 days away and will be held right here in Tampa Bay. Our community has hosted the Super Bowl before and boy does this town enjoy the festivities.
