Why depersonalize your home? The quick answer is that you want buyers to see it as their new home!

We are with buyers in and around Clearwater everyday and we can see them get distracted by personal items in the homes – pictures, awards, trophies, collectibles, knick-knacks, souvenirs, etc. I know you love that elephant statue; all of your family pictures going back to your great grandparents; those cute baby pictures of your ten kids; your high-school yearbook; photo albums and that Valentine’s Day card from your son.

But you don’t want the buyers remembering your house as the one with the blue elephant statue. You do want the buyers to remember how they liked the floor plan and how at home they felt as they visualized how their stuff would be in the home – Got it?

Listen, I have a real life example for you. I was selling a very nice home that would be perfect for the buyers who I was showing the home to that day. The room sizes were perfect, number of baths and bedrooms were perfect, the outside area and pool again were perfect.

Well, the owner has a rare knife and sword collection plastered all over the family room. When the buyers entered the family room, the wife immediately shut down and left the room. That’s right. She just turned around and left the family room.

Done; end of story; wouldn’t look at the house! Her husband and I talked to her for about 15-minutes, but that was it; that house is out!

So, believe me when I tell you to depersonalize your Clearwater Fl home. Put those pictures, awards, trophies, collectibles, knick-knacks, souvenirs, knife collections, moose heads, etc in a storage locker!

Okay, now here is another important point – Don’t just these items in the attic, basement, garage or a closet because part of preparing a house for sale is to get rid of “clutter” and we will discuss that later.
